The Art of Accessorising – Elevate Your Outfit Sustainably

Accessories are the finishing touch on any outfit, so it’s important to get them right. The right accessories can elevate your outfit and confidence with what you are wearing. Sometimes all you need is a necklace or really simple ring to complete the outfit that you are wearing. Read on for our top tips on how to choose the perfect accessory for every occasion.

Choosing the right accessories

Accessorising is an art. It’s about knowing which accessories will complement your outfit, and how to match them with other items in your wardrobe. Sometimes you’ll naturally have a gravitational pull towards what will match your outfit, other times not. I always find that I end up finding a new favourite accessory (like a pair of earrings) and then wear them continuously for weeks.

Here are some tips on how to accessorize:

• Consider the occasion you’re going for. Are you dressing up for work? Or maybe it’s a casual day at school or university? The type of event will dictate what kind of jewellery, handbags and shoes are appropriate. You always want to ensure that what you’re wearing is functional. Personally, I am a lover for a backpack as I always have so much I need to carry around with me. A handbag will sadly not do the trick!

• Think about the colour scheme of your outfit before choosing accessories. Maybe your outfit contains a lot of neutral tones, so you want to wear something more minimalistic. Or perhaps you’ve already opted for clashing prints so that bold colour will set it off. Trust your instincts. Try on the jewellery, take a look at yourself in the mirror and then go from there.

• If possible try out different combinations until one stands out as being perfect for what you want achieve–whether that be adding an edge or making an outfit more comfortable than before. I always love going to my local charity shops to test out different accessories as you get such a variety in different styles. This is the best place to experiment with different clothing colours and styles as well.

• Hoop Earrings- This will forever be a popular trend. Hoop Earrings, whether big or small add an element of luxury to an outfit if worn correctly. We will never forget Serena’s hoop earrings she couldn’t possibly wear because of Blair. But don’t worry, Blair is a trend setter and you can now wear them without the guilt of upsetting your queen.

• Pearls- Forever a classic when it comes to jewellery. Forever a fan of art-deco greatness, pearls can add an element of elegance and luxury to any outfit. Just opt for the more realistic ones.

• Chunky Chains- Metal jewellery is a popular trend for 2023. The neutral compliment of a gold or silver chain with any outfit. A chain has been a classic jewellery statement since the 90s and the 90s revival is definitely making us want to wear our chained necklaces with pride again.

• Woven Bags- This trend is appearing quite a lot since the resurgence of artisanal skills within the fashion community. The traditional skill of weaving allows for a guaranteed bag which will last a lifetime, due to the time which goes into ensuring the willow is interlocked perfectly together.

• Statement Necklaces- Gucci and its love for maximalism has reignited the love for costume jewellery. One of my favourite past-times is picking out the biggest stones and most extravagant jewellery I can find at my local car-boot sales! The resurgence in statement means that brooches are making a big comeback also.

• Bold Rings- how many rings can we fit on our hands? That answer is how many rings you should be wearing. Maybe a slight exaggeration, But start start stacking those rings and wear the rings with the biggest stones you can possibly find!
